Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation resigns.


Ports, Shipping and Civil Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has temporarily resigned from his ministerial position.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has ordered an immediate formal investigation into the allegation raised by the opposition leader in Parliament yesterday (05) regarding a transaction made by the Ministry of Aviation with a private company.

The Presidential Media Division announces that Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva will temporarily step down from the position of Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Services until the investigations are completed.

However, in the letter sent by Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, it is stated that he is not the minister related to the statement made by opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa in Parliament yesterday (05) and that the project being implemented by the company in question is the airport and airline company under his purview. It is believed that people are convinced that this accusation has been made against him implicitly because he has been assigned to.

Therefore, in order to preserve his innocence in this regard, the President has also been requested to conduct an impartial investigation into the allegation.

Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva has further stated in the relevant letter that he will immediately resign from the ministerial position he holds in order to provide space for the related investigation to be conducted freely and independently.
