"Tarjani" joins the netball team going to the Asia tournament

Asia's tallest player Tarjani Sivalingam is preparing to be included in the Sri Lankan team for the Asia Cup Netball tournament to be held in Singapore with the special approval of the National Selection Committee.

A few days ago, Tarjani was not included in the Sri Lanka Netball selection test held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo, but several parties have requested the Ministry of Sports that she should be included in the Sri Lanka Netball team as she is a very talented player. In view of the current situation in the country, all those parties are of the opinion of the importance of sending the best team to Singapore and winning the Asia Cup.

On the basis of the situation, Mr. Amal Edirisuriya, Director General of Sports, has taken steps to hold a special discussion with Chairperson Victoria Lakshmi and National Netball Coach Hyacinth Wijesinghe at the Ministry of Sports yesterday. The Director General of Sports has informed to make a written request to the National Selection Committee about Tarjani Sivalingam as the Ministry of Sports cannot interfere in the selection activities of the sports teams.

In this regard, Director General of Sports Advocate Amal Edirisuriya said that Tarjani Sivalingam is a very talented athlete. "The federation informs the national selection committee of her need. Accordingly, the National Selection Committee will take a suitable decision. However, there is no need for us to ignore a request made by the union. We should help the plans to win the country," said the Director General of Sports.

The Sri Lanka Netball Federation has already forwarded the relevant request to the National Selection Committee, and the approval will be received today and tomorrow, said the Chairperson Mrs. Victoria Lakshmi.

Sri Lanka Netball Selection Committee Chairperson Mrs. Damayanthi Jayathilaka said that her committee's opinion on Tarjani Sivalingam joining the team was informed to the Federation. 12 players have been selected. Apart from that, we don't mind taking tarjani. The federation has been informed about this. We need the best team'' says Mrs. Jayathilaka.

15 players of the squad have signed a letter and given it to the Netball Federation saying that Tarjani Sivalingam is needed to win the Asia Netball Championship. Apart from that, it is also reported that the Netball Federation has been informed in writing that Tarjani Sivalingam, who is in Australia, will come to Singapore.
