Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has informed the Election Commission that he will continue to work as the General Secretary of the United People's Freedom Alliance.
In issuing a letter, he has further stated that although he was informed through the media that he had been removed and Thilanga Sumathipala appointed for that purpose, the other parties of the United People's Freedom Alliance were not aware of the change.
Therefore, the minister has further stated that the matter is unconstitutional and illegal.
Due to this, the Minister has also informed the Election Commission in the relevant letter that if the Commission has received any notification about a change in the position of the General Secretary of the United People's Freedom Alliance, to refrain from acting on it.
