430 million rupees will be set aside to replant 12,500 fallow fields in the next season.



At present, the amount of fallow fields in our country that can be replanted but has been left uncultivated for almost 05 years is 47,000 acres.

Another 50,000 acres have become fallow fields but cannot be used for replanting.

The Ministry of Agriculture has started a program to replant fallow fields in our country. According to the advice of the Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera, the Department of Agricultural Development has allocated 430 million rupees for the year 2023 to be used to replant fallow fields in Sri Lanka.

By using this amount, the Department of Agricultural Development has planned to replant 12,500 acres of fallow fields in the high season of 2023.

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says that the goal is to replant all 47,000 acres that have become fallow fields year after year using government funds.

Most of the fallow fields that can be cultivated but left uncultivated are found in the Western Province.

The Department of Agricultural Development provides free of charge the necessary technology, financial allocations and seeds and other inputs for cultivating the fallow fields that have been left uncultivated to the unemployed youth community.

Also, the Minister has instructed the Department of Agricultural Development to use this amount of 430 million rupees for the renovation of dilapidated canals in those rice fields, preparation of embankments, and removal of the weeds currently grown in those rice fields.
