Officers of Hatton Police's Criminal Investigation Department have managed to arrest an organized gang of thieves on the (19th) day, who were stealing jewelery from women and wearing them.
On the last (12) day, another woman who had made friends with a woman who had come to a function held at a festival hall in Hatton city, said that she would take the woman home in the tricycle that she had come and drop her home. Water poured on the woman.
After drinking the water, when the woman became unconscious, they tied the woman's neck, stole the gold necklace worth about 2.5 lakh rupees and left the woman at a bus stop on the Dikoya Sanchimale road and fled.
The unconscious woman was admitted to the Dik Oya Primary Hospital by a group of people who were traveling on that road. After the woman regained consciousness, the woman lodged a complaint with the Hatton Police regarding the incident.
According to the complaint, police officers including the Station Commander of Hatton Police's Criminal Investigation Department started an investigation through CCTV footage and initially arrested the three-wheeler and later arrested two other suspects and a female suspect involved in the theft.
After the arrest of the suspects, the stolen 2 ½ pound gold necklace and Rs 60000/= in the possession of the suspects were also taken into police custody.
The two arrested suspects are residents of Hatton and Nawalapitiya area, the suspect is a resident of Watawala police station, and the suspects in the age group of 27-45 years are wanted in several police stations for a number of such thefts. .
Police Inspector Ranjith Jayasena said that the arrested suspects will be presented to Hatton Magistrate Court and the other suspects will be arrested in connection with this theft.
